FAQs

Common questions about the North Carolina Warehouse Association, its member warehouses and how to work with them.

What is the North Carolina Warehouse Association?

The North Carolina Warehouse Association (NCWA) is a trade association of third-party warehouse operators in North Carolina. Since 1963 it has represented the state’s third-party warehouses, whose members provide warehousing, distribution and logistics services to businesses of every size.

What is a third-party warehouse?

A third-party warehouse, often called a 3PL, stores and handles goods for other companies. Instead of building or leasing its own facility, a business pays a warehouse operator for space and services such as receiving, storage, order fulfillment and shipping. Terms can be short or long, so capacity can grow or shrink with demand.

Where are NCWA member warehouses located?

The member directory currently lists 32 warehouse locations in 17 North Carolina communities: Belmont, Charlotte, Claremont, Conover, Durham, Goldsboro, Greensboro, Greenville, Hickory, High Point, Raleigh, Statesville, Tarboro, Tyner, Whitsett, Wilson and Winston-Salem. Browse the member directory to see every location.

What services do NCWA members offer?

Services vary by member. Across the association they include order fulfillment, cross-docking, kitting, labeling, shrink wrapping, and container loading and unloading, along with hazmat-certified and climate-controlled storage, freight and transportation management, rail, truckload, LTL and parcel shipping, inventory management and reverse logistics. Each member’s listing describes what that location offers.

How do I find the right warehouse for my business?

Start with the member directory, which lists every member location A to Z. On the homepage you can also filter members by city, search by company name or browse the map. Each listing shows the address, phone number, website and directions.

How do I request a warehousing rate quote?

Open a member’s listing and choose Rate Form. Your request goes to that member, and the member quotes rates directly. The form asks for:

  • Your start date and contact details
  • Number of SKUs
  • Minimum and maximum inventory levels
  • Your peak season
  • How goods are stored, floor loaded or palletized, and their dimensions
  • The share of freight moving by truck and by rail

Having those details ready gets you a more accurate quote.

Can NCWA members store hazardous or temperature-sensitive products?

Some can. Member services include hazmat-certified storage and climate-controlled storage, and some members specialize in chemical storage and handling. Requirements differ by product, so confirm certifications and capabilities with the member when you request a rate.

Why use a warehouse in North Carolina?

North Carolina sits midway along the East Coast, with Interstates 40, 77, 85 and 95 crossing the state and the Port of Wilmington on its coast. Many members are also within reach of the ports of Charleston and Norfolk. The state’s third-party warehouses pair that location with an experienced workforce, which suits both short-term and long-term logistics needs.

How does a warehouse company join the NCWA?
